Our Beliefs

Greater Refuge Temple Church of Our Lord

Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.

          Statements of Faith and Doctrine

The basis of our creed, discipline, rules of order, and doctrine is the Word of God as taught and revealed by the Holy Ghost.1 "All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."2  As a member congregation of The Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ Of The Apostolic Faith, Inc. (referred to hereafter in these Bylaws as the national church), we adhere to the basic biblical doctrines of the Apostolic Faith as set forth in The Discipline Book of The Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ Of The Apostolic Faith, Inc. (hereafter referred to as the Discipline Book). We summarize our doctrinal stand as follows.

Section 1                        One God:

We believe in one God: progressively manifested as the Father in creation, the Son in redemption, and the Holy Ghost in the Church.

Section 2                        The Scriptures Inspired:

We believe the Bible in its entirety to be the inspired Word of God as revealed by the Holy Ghost, and that it alone serves as the sole source of our creeds, doctrines, and disciplines. 4

Section 3                    The One True God.

The One true God  is comprised in three manifestion of the one true God as father, the son and the Holy Spirit, who is eternal and self-existent and function as one entity Jesus Christ, who is God manifested in the flesh.

Section 4                    Redemption:

We believe in the redemption of sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the apostolic doctrine of the new birth through the process of repentance, baptism by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and baptism in the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. 5

Section 5                       Sanctification:

We believe in sanctification through the Word of God by the Holy Ghost, and in personal holiness of heart and life which enables us to desire and maintain a complete separation from sin and abstain from all outward appearances of sin and sinful activities. 6

Section 6                    Divine Healing:

We believe in divine healing through faith in the name of The Lord Jesus Christ, and that healing is included in the redemption of man as "the children's bread." We also believe in the ministries of deliverance, reconciliation, and restoration. 7

Section 7                        Tithing:

We believe in tithing as the means by which God's people can worship Him with their substance and thereby contribute to the work of His Church.s

Section 8                       The Sacrament of Marriage:

“Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife…”, “…For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,…”, Each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.”, “Finally the time came for him to marry her.”. It is our sincere belief that marriage, as ordained by God, is defined as being between one man and one woman. No other will be performed or condoned. (Jeremiah 29:6; Romans

7:2;n1 Corinthians 7:2; Genesis 21:21; Genesis 29:21; 1 Corinthians 7:36, 39; Genesis 2:23-24; Ephesians 5:22-23, 25, 28-29, 31, 33)

Body of Christ. 11

Section 9                    Ordinances:

We believe in the divinely appointed ordinances of the Church which we are mandated to perform until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth; namely:

  1. Water baptism by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin, which is the primary act of faith and obedience to God's word subsequent to repentance 9

B.   Communion in the form of bread and wine which was first celebrated by Melchisidec and later instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ, who is a priest forever after the order of Melchisidec, which is to be observed in remembrance of the broken body and shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ as he made atonement for the sins of the world, 10

C.    The washing of feet as Jesus washed the feet of the disciples at the last supper as a sign of humility and service to the

Section 10                      Evangelism:

We believe in the active work of evangelism/missions in accordance with the Great Commission by preaching the Gospel and demonstrating the love of God to humanity in real and practical ways. 12

Section 11                  The Promise of the Father:

All believers are entitled to, and should ardently expect and earnestly seek, the promise of the Father, the Baptism in the Holy Ghost and Fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ.  This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian church.  With it comes the endowment of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry.  (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4‑8; 1 Cor.

12:1‑31).  This wonderful experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the new birth (Acts 2:38; 10:44‑46; 11:14‑16; 15:7‑9).

Section 12                  The Church:

The church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission.  Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in Heaven (Ephesians 1:22; 2:19‑22; Hebrews 12:23).

Section 13                  Second Coming:

We believe in the literal second coming of The Lord Jesus Christ to gather His prepared church to be with Him forever. 13

Section 14                  The Lake of Fire:

Those who have not accepted the redemptive work of Jesus Christ will suffer eternal separation from the Godhead.  The devil and his angels, the beast  and the false prophet, and anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life, shall be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.  This is the second death, the lake of fire (Rev. 19:20; 20:10‑15).

Section 15                  The Millennial Reign of Jesus:

The return of our Lord Jesus Christ with His Saints from Heaven to rule and reign for one thousand years on earth as the Scriptures promised (Romans 11:25, 27; 2 Thess. 1:7; Rev. 19:11‑16; 20:1‑7).  After this, there shall be a new heaven and a new earth (Rev. 21).
